Development of a roof bolter drilling control process to reduce the generation of respirable dust

Abstract The drilling operation in the roof bolting process, especially hard rock, generates excessive respirable coal and quartz dusts, which could expose operator to continued health risks. Previous research has shown that amount of dust produced is dependent on main parameters, specifically rotational penetration rate. In this paper, a bolter control process was proposed reduce generation dust. Based analysis laboratory test results, rational (adjusting rates) achieve optimal parameter for different rock types proposed. ratio between specific energy uniaxial compressive strength used as index determine point. recommended range type experiment provided, reduction demonstrated. By following efficiency can be monitored real time, so system stay relatively high-energy with less production from source. This algorithm targeted incorporated into current automation safe productive conducted healthy working environment.
